BAFE Scheme SP101

BAFE Scheme SP101 has been set up by BAFE to ensure that companies involved in the maintenance of portable fire extinguishers are competent and able to complete the work to a recognised standard.

The standard has been specifically tailored to ensure that the staff involved in the maintenance of fire extinguishers conduct their work according to requirements and in a due diligent manner. The standard ensures that staff and the company are continually assessed which means that the end customer can be assured the work has been undertaken to a professional and recognised standard.

Independent European Certification Limited offers certification to BAFE SP101 either:

• as a Product Certification (which does not require registration to ISO 9001:2015)
• or having the BAFE SP101 requirements as part of a management system certification to ISO 9001:2015.

BAFE Scheme SP203-1

BAFE Scheme SP203-1 has been set up by BAFE to ensure that companies involved in providing fire detection and alarm systems are competent and able to complete the work to a recognised standard.

The scheme is split into four modules:

• System Design
• Installation
• Commissioning/Handover
• Maintenance

For the BAFE SP203-1 scheme, you do not need certification to ISO 9001:2015.

How can I join the BAFE Schemes SP101 and SP203-1?

To join the schemes you need to formally apply to Independent European Certification Limited (see link at the bottom of the page) and then follow the steps below:

1. Application received and processed by Independent European Certification Limited, quotation raised
2. Acceptance of quotation by Fire Company
3. Assessment conducted at the premises/site
4. If assessment successful, certification issued by Independent European Certification Ltd
5. Apply to BAFE in writing for BAFE SP101 or BAFE SP203-1 certification
6. BAFE contacts Independent European certification Limited to ensure you have the correct certification
7. BAFE issues a certificate and you are entered onto the BAFE listing
8. Independent European Certification Limited provides ongoing annual surveillance assessments.
